With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we’re sure a lot of you young Rob Gordon’s are putting together exclusive mixtapes for your someone special. In honor of the holiday Reviewsic will be posting a series of songs inspired by all things lovely for your romantic listening.
Today’s list: 5 Songs about a Girl
Pistol- Dustin Kensrue
For the girl who’s a little rough around the edges, but you know has an ooey-gooey heart at the center of her tough exterior. Let the hard headed woman in your life know that if you could sing with such a graciously gritty voice as Mr. Kensure, you’d say, “You’re the girl of my dreams/And a pistol it seems, but you shoot me straight and true/Time to lay down my bets/Oh, I put all my money on you”
The Perfect Girl- The Cure
A good song for a confusing crush or a quirky cutie, ‘The Perfect Girl’ is all new wave post-rock guitar and synth, short , sweet, and to the point while Robert Smith croons “You’re such a strange girl/I think you come from another world/You’re such a strange girl/I really don’t understand a word/I want to be with you”
Fighter Girl- Mason Jennings
Minneapolis musician Mason Jennings understands the importance of a nice girl to keep him warm in those cold northern winter months, using his charming country chorus to urge his darlin’ girl to “Come on kissing me/keep on kissing me” If you’ve got a girl you’ve been meaning to ask for a smooch from, this could be the track for you.
Easy Girl- Coconut Records Nighttiming
Though we’re sure upon reading the title to this track you might get a raised eyebrow, we assure you Jason Schwartzman means it with the most flattering of intentions. Easy girl is a simple, dreamy, song about telling your lady that she’s “An easy girl to love/ An easy girl to kiss/An easy girl to miss when you’re gone”
The Girl- City and Colour
Put this one on the disc for the dame with impeccable patience and loyalty, that you’d take home to mom, and deserves the beautiful “Ohh Ohh’s” Dallas Green does oh so well. We love this song for it’s delicate beginning, celebratory pace pick up midway, and of course for it’s honest to god sweetness.
