Singer/songwriter Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse has committed suicide, according to a report from Rolling Stone. An issue from Linkous’ family was issued saying,”It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”
Debuting in the music world under the glimmery monkier in 1995 with Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot, Linkous would go on to release three more highly acclaimed records of the experimental sound Sparklehorse is so well known for. Apart from his independent work Linkous was also part of the Danger Mouse/David Lynch project Dark Night of the Soul, which after a lengthy legal dispute was finally approved for physical release earlier this week, and is due out this Summer. Additionally Mark Linkous, forever the voracious collaborator teamed up in the Fennesz collaboration for In the Fishtank, as well as a number of other great comings together, including music with Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits, and PJ Harvey.
Linkous’ publicist confirms he was nearly finished with a new album that was due on Anti- Records.
